NYC Photo Diary

Just before Christmas, I was lucky enough to go on a once in a lifetime trip to the Big Apple with my family. It was, without a doubt, the best holiday that I have ever been on, we managed to pack so much into the five days that we were there! The five highlights of the trip for me were:

1) Going up into the crown of the Statue of Liberty
There wasn't an observation deck up there so we had to peep out of these tiny windows to see the view but it was just amazing to me to think that we were inside the actual Statue of Liberty! It was probably the nearest I came to death on the whole trip too as you have to climb 300 steps to get up there and I do not exercise!

2) Eating proper American pizza in Brooklyn
I can honestly say that it was the best pizza that I have ever had (I do not say this lightly - Dominos has a special place in my heart but even that doesn't compare). I also had a delicious drink from a cute lemonade stand called Lizzmonade - it had real pineapple and blackberries blended into it and it was just gorgeous. Not to mention that the backdrop to our lunch that day was pretty breathtaking too (this was where I took the first photo on this blog post).

3) Visiting the 9/11 Memorial
I wasn't quite prepared for how emotionally overwhelming it would be to see the place where such a tragedy happened. The Memorial Pools felt very meaningful to me in a way that I can't explain, and I felt humbled to be able to pay my respects to those who lost their lives there. The Museum next to it was respectful, informative and tasteful, I could have spent hours there.

4) Buying tickets in Times Square for a Broadway show
This was a bit spontaneous for us as my family and I normally like to have everything planned in advance but we were feeling adventurous! We went to see the Jersey Boys and it was absolutely incredible, I would really recommend seeing it in New York too as we had some real New Jerseyan actors which made the show feel more authentic.

5) Watching the sun set from the top of the Rockefeller
We almost didn't make it because we had to wait inside the building for an hour prior to going onto the observation deck and I was worried that the sun was going down whilst we were stuck inside! As you can see from the last photo, we caught the end of the sunset and it was completely spectacular.

A little heads up for my post on Thursday - it links to this one and it may be beauty related...
