Lip Liner Sandwich

You know that feeling when you discover a new way of doing your makeup and you feel annoyed that you haven't been doing it your whole life? That happened to me this week. I feel like this is the beauty blogger equivalent of being a marine biologist and discovering a new species of whale or something...
Ok maybe it's not that groundbreaking, but my new way of making a bold lip last all day is pretty darn good if I do say so myself.

So last week I went out for drinks with some friends after work and I wanted to dress up my standard work outfit with a red lip as I knew I wouldn't have time to change. I was going to put my lipstick on just before we left but I had a super busy afternoon at work so I ended up putting my lipstick on when I had a spare minute at lunch. I brought a classic MAC lip combo with me (their lipstick in Russian Red and their lip pencil in Cherry) which always makes for a beautiful red lip. You're probably wondering to yourself why I am telling you this long story! The reason is that I randomly tried a new way of applying my lipstick that day and was completely amazed to find that my lips were still perfect by bedtime. So how is it done?

It couldn't be more simple. I start by giving my lips a wash of cover with lip liner but instead of lining the outer edge of my lips like normal, I colour the middle part of my lips to form a long lasting base. I then apply a layer of lipstick as usual and then finish by going over my lips again with the lip liner, this time only tracing the outer edges for an ultra precise look. This last step of applying liner OVER lipstick may seem a bit strange at first but give it a go - I don't know what it is about this little formula but the three steps really lock in colour on my lips for hours.

Has anyone else got any makeup tricks that they rely on?
